David Jones is in his seventh season as an assistant coach with the women's basketball program. He joined the program in August 1999 after 25 years of coaching in the Bay City Independent School District.

Jones contributes to all areas of the UH women's basketball program. His primary responsibility includes individual workouts and the strength and conditioning regiment for the team. He is also in charge of the scouting of opponents and practice preparation.

At Bay City High School, Jones was an assistant varsity basketball and football coach. In addition to his normal coaching duties, he played an integral role in advising and counseling athletes during academic course selections. At the same time he organized tutorial programs to encourage student-athlete academic success. As a liaison between Bay City Athletics and the surrounding community, Jones also helped to establish and maintain good community relations.

Jones is a 1974 graduate of Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas where he acquired his bachelor of science degree in physical education and business education.

At Howard Payne Jones lettered in basketball and football. As a member of the basketball team he served as team captain and was named the best defensive player in the Lone Star Conference.

His football skills also were well recognized, when in 1974 he was drafted by the Detroit Lions of the National Football League.

A native of Stanton, Texas, Jones and his wife, Janice, have one daughter, Chandi, who wrapped up her collegiate career at Houston in 2004 and currently plays for the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA.
